Class Interruptions

In Room 42 we get alot of disruptions such as,
- Phone
- Messengers
- Intercom
- Low internet

How they affect us,
- Phone = Everyone talk and yells out "who's answering the phone?" Everyone makes a fuss of it then we all get distracted.

- Messengers = People yell out and say "There's someone at the door" The whole class turns around
and everyone gets off task.

- Intercom = Even if the message doesn't apply to us the whole class still has to listen as it's hard to talk
over it.

- Low internet = We can't start our work and we all get frustrated. We start to become a little off task.

Solutions to these distractions,
- Phone = Phone person sit by phone.

- Messengers = Make this a job, one person to receive all messages and give them to the teacher.

- Intercom = If the message doesn't apply to us then just keep silently working, just ignore and keep
working.

- Low internet = Someone could organise a quick alternative task while we're waiting.

Social Experiment

I think that the video "Social Experiment" will be to do with people because social means to socialise or to interact with another person. I also think that there will be people being tested on something because to experiment, means to undertake a study and to make a conclusion on the results you get.

Link to video
Aim
To find out how people will react to a speaker saying compliments and insults. √

Hypothesis
I think that people will stay longer when a compliment is said and when an insult is said people will get mad or walk away. √

Equipment √
- Speaker
- A busy street
- microphone
- Video camera

Method √
1. Place your speaker in a busy street where heaps of people are likely walk by.
2. Hide yourself in a place where people won't see you and bring your microphone with you.
3. Now as someone walks by say either a compliment or an insult through your microphone.
4. Now start recording on your video camera the reactions of passers by.

Results √
I found that more people reacted to the insults. The reason is because people are bothered by people insulting them so they probably want to know what's going on as they did nothing wrong. Most people just smiled and kept walking when a compliment was being said though. The reason for this is because people enjoy being complimented and don't really need to react as it doesn't bother them.

Conclusion √
Overall I found that it doesn't matter if you are seen or not when you say something insulting as people still feel hurt. I also found that people really feel better and good about themselves when someone says a compliment to them and that it could really change their day.

Scam Letter

Link to scam letter: CLICK HERE!

Summarise who this letter is from, who it is to, and what it is about.
This letter is from Emily Park
The letter does not state any names about who it is too but Miss C received this email in her inbox.
The letter is about a lady called Maria Fernandez who is from the FBI and is going to help you get your compensation back. The lady, Emily Park that wrote the letter says she lost heaps of money and then emailed Maria and got over a million dollars. She then strongly advised Miss C to do the same and to email Maria.

What are 2 reasons you know that this letter is a scam.
1. They say that you have to pay $250 for the ownership paperwork. Scams usually ask for a small amount of money and then they get it from many different people and it all adds up.
2. The lady, Emily states her email which is different from the senders email, but Emily says the letter is from her.

Give 3 pieces of evidence (excerpts of sentences) that prove that this letter is a scam.
The letter says, From: Emily Park <annie@luckyconcord.com> but then says, and my email address is (emilypark381@yahoo.com). It says Emily is the sender so unless she has two email addresses, there are two different email addresses?

2.

The only Money I paid after I meet with Mrs. Maria Fernandez was just $250.00 for the ownership paper works. At the end of the letter there is this short sentence which also shows that this is a scam. Scammers usually ask for small amounts of money from a large amount of people.

3.

Mrs. Maria Fernandez showed me the full Information of those that are yet to receive their compensation funds and this was how I came across only your email address and your full name. Miss C isn't owed any compensation funds so how would her name be on the list?

Describe a scam or prank you have heard about or been subject to.
I've been on websites which say, "CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE OUR 100TH VISITOR, YOU'VE WON 1,000,000! I never click on them but some people do. If you were to click you would be taken to a website where you enter your email address. The scammers will then get your email and sell it to someone else.

Give 5 pieces of advice for people to avoid internet or email based scams.
1. Don't reply to emails if you don't know who the sender is.

2. If you see a pop up ad saying you've won something, don't click, this is one of the most popular ways people get scammed.

3. Never give anyone you don't know your email address.

4. Change your passwords from time to time.

5. Don't send money to people you don't know.

Sleepover after disco!

Last night after the disco my best friend, Jessie came to stay the night! When my Mum picked Jessie and I up we went straight to Countdown to buy Miss McKenzie a birthday present. After that we went home and found my kitten, Simba. We played with him for a little bit, then had dinner a shower and put on our PJ's as it was already nearing 10:30pm! Once we were all ready we decided to hit the hay, but really we didn't. We talked till about 12:00 o'clock! When we heard my watch go off at 12:00 o'clock we decided that it was really time to go to bed! We fell asleep quite quickly and woke up the next morning at 6:55am. We were quite tired as we had had a late night. When we finally dragged ourselves out of bed we got ready for school. Then it was time to hop in the car. We dropped my Brother and Sister off to their school first and then my Dad dropped Jessie and I off.

I had so much fun in the short time I got to spend with Jessie. I hope she comes over again soon.

Subordinating Conjunctions

Because I completed all my homework, I got to have an ice-cream sundae.
Since the earthquake, people have been scared to go outside by themselves.
After   my hockey game, I went home and had a nap.
Before    I leave for school, I have to feed my pets.
If  our team doesn't win this game, we won't be able to go into the final.

I decided to go to the dairy, but while I was walking a dog came and bit me on the leg.
I hate tomatoes, but not as much as I hate leaks!
I lost my netball game, although I did get player of the day.
I was just about to go for a run, but as soon as I stepped outside it started to rain.
I nearly won the race, even though I tripped over.

Describing a scene

I smell an icy wind, it makes my nose tingle as it wafts through the air and into my tent. I also smell my soup as it starts to heat up. Tomato soup, my favourite. I take a sip and it slithers down my throat, my chest warms up instantly. I'm glad I have three pairs of socks on and although I have layered clothing the wind still sends a chill up my spine. My nose slowly turns a pinky colour and it starts to feel numb. But I can see the sun starting to rise so I know it should warm up. I hear the snow crushing beneath other skiers feet as they carefully trudge through the sheet of crisp white snow in front of them. One guys slips and his foot goes sinking into the ground. I see the towering mountain above me. The height doesn’t scare me, I know I can conquer it. I feel fresh, determined and ready to start the day. Nothing can stop me, I will get to the top.

2014 FIFA World Cup

These are the 6 food items McDonalds has added to their menu,

The Brazil Burger

The Argentina Burger

The France Burger

The Spain Brekkie Wrap

The Rio Frozen Sprite

The England Pie

The Brazil Burger contains,

- beef patty
- red kidney beans
- sweet corn
- red onion
- tomato puree
- water
- green capsicum
- red capsicum
- salt, spices, paprika, cumin, coriander, chilli
- herb

This burger represents with the country Brazil because beef are two food items that are put together quiet often. The Brazilians only use a little pinch of salt though because it is just used to bring out the flavour. It also has a green capsicum which are the colour green and that is one of the colours of the Brazilian flag. Brazilians also often use beans, but usually black beans instead of kidney beans.

This is my recipe for the Japanese Burger

- teriyaki chicken patty
- cabbage
- mayonaise
- grated carrot
- tomato
- corn
- onion

The reason i've chosen teriyaki chicken is because it is quite popular in Japan, especially in sushi. Cabbage is also a very popular food because the Japanese put it in curry and in salads. Japan also love mayonnaise because it gives a little bit more flavour to the dish it's in. Japan love their vegetables and growing them themselves so thats why i've added in tomato, corn and onion.

Invisible Soldier

Invisible Soldier.

I think that the video, invisible soldier could be about an invisible solider that goes to war. The word invisible means that they can't be seen. So the soldier might use his invisibility powers to his advantage in a war. Soldiers fight in war therefore I think there could be a war and the soldier creeps past the opposition using invisibility.

How to video

Rating
0 - 3
0 - not done 3 - extremely well done

Do I have a title slide? - 3

Do I have subtitles for the steps? - 1

How well does the voiceover timing match the photo?  - 3

How well do the photos match the script? - 3

Are the photos well focused? - 2

Is the audio clear? - 3

Reflection

A strength was that we finished our script quickly and we were able to get onto our shots quickly. We were able to finish fast and we worked as a team well.

A problem we overcame was when we couldn't find a iPad cord to convert our photos. We still pushed through and we tried to do as much as we could without a chord.

Our best shot was the one below because alot of editing and thought went into it.

Some advice I would give the Year 7's next year when they make How To videos is,
Come up with a unique idea.
Think things carefully through when planning your script.
Have a vision of what you want your final product to look like.
Don't muck around.
Have fun!

A few ways to memorise things

Here are 5 strategies on how to memorise things

1.
Acronyms, you can use acronyms to remember things by using the first letter of the word. For example if you were remembering cities, C (Chatham Islands) A (Auckland), T (Tauranga) = CAT.

2.
Rhymes, for example, 30 days have September, April June and November... and so on

3.
Repetition, repeating a certain thing or statement over and over can make your brain remember things easily, for example a speech.

4.
Writing it out, if you write out something your brain is actually writing each word or number and memorising it. For example when you have to remember a song.

5.
Songs, some songs are really catchy, therefore helping you remember.

6.
Also a way is creating pictures in your head.

My preferred way is writing it out because my brain is actually focusing on the words being written down.

Interviewing Bailey Dobier

THE TIS TIMES

Interviewer: So, Bailey when did you decide to take on this life changing adventure?

Bailey: Well, I just really wanted to follow my dreams of international travel and study.

Interviewer: What was your favourite country?

Bailey: I can't really give you an answer on that one, each country was equally amazing!

Interviewer: I bet!, what we all want to know is did you ever get homesick?

Bailey: Sometimes I did but most days I was so focused on what activities we were doing that I didn't really think about family all the time. I did Skype my family sometimes though which was nice.

Interviewer: How do you feel now that you've graduated?

Bailey: To be honest I feel like a wiser person. I've learnt so much on this incredible journey.

Interviewer: Well thank-you Bailey for talking to us about your journey

Bailey: No problem, wish me luck for Mount Kilimanjaro!

Congratulations Aunty Kath!

Yesterday night my Aunty Kath received an exciting letter that I read out to the family before the big announcement that was in the Herald this morning! Now this was no ordinary letter as it was from the almighty Sir Jerry Mateparae, who is the governor general!  Her royal highness the Queen had appointed my Aunty the Officer of New Zealand Order of Merit. Mr John Key also sent a letter congratulating my Aunty on her achievement! Sometime soon my Aunty will be receiving a medal from Sir Jerry for her work of helping people with arthritis for over 30 years! I just wanted to congratulate my Aunty Kath on this amazing achievement! Well Done!!

Our gorgeous new family member!

Today was an exciting day as our family got a new addition, no not another baby a kitten! The kitten was found and unwanted so we took her in. Our new kitten which has not yet been named is absolutely gorgeous and adorable. She has such a cute personality and I can't wait to watch her grow up.
